I support the Precautionary Principle, which requires corporations to demonstrate that their activities will cause no harm.
Presently, the burden of proof is on those harmed by the fossil fuel industry. The pollution caused by Duke Energy’s poor oversight of coal ash, and the threats to our water by aging infrastructure and private ownership of municipal water systems are threats which I also intend to address.
Additionally, the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline, which will run north to south through the eastern region of North Carolina is a threat to public health. The dangers with fracking and pipeline development are well known. Ongoing explosions of aging or inferior infrastructure, the public health dangers of of methane emissions, and the significant contributions of gas emissions to global warming are all reasons to oppose the pipeline.
An expert on this topic, I will seek policy solutions that are practical and immediate.
